Top of the beanstalk

Form 4 have come back to school refreshed and ready to learn. In English, they have begun reading a book called The Giant and the Joneses. They quickly recognised that it was linked to Jack and the Beanstalk and were surprised that Julia Donaldson has also written chapter books for older children. There was a lot of discussion about the various characters, and the children then enjoyed making up and describing their own lands that might be found at the top of the beanstalk.

The children’s hard work on learning their multiplication tables paid off this week as they tackled column multiplication. All of the children can now use the standard method when multiplying a two digit by a one digit number and several were confidently using much larger numbers as well.

In science, the children found out about different animals’ teeth and they had fun matching various skulls to the correct animal. They realised that there were vast differences based on the diet of each animal.

There was a final look at the Romans this week in humanities. The children found out about the story of Boudicca’s revolt and then they chose one of the main Roman gods to carry out some research on.

In art, the children were excited to take part in an embossing workshop and the results are fantastic.
