Look to the stars

On Monday, the Form 6 children took part in an evening of stargazing, with Mr McCarthy and Mrs Carn. They learned the difference between an asterism and a constellation and that our sun is quite unique in being the solo star, most systems have 2 or 3. Whilst learning they consumed hot chocolate and a biscuit, warming themselves up in readiness to go outside.  F6 were able to enjoy patches of clear skies on the night of our Stargazing. They compared seeing the stars with the naked eye  with the view through binoculars. They were amazed at the detail they could observe and were even able to spot the elusive Sirius B through Mr McCarthy’s telescope.

Huge congratulations to the Form 6 girls who took part in the ISA National Hockey Championships at Lee Valley Hockey Centre on Tuesday. The team won the silver medal in the Plate tournament, conceding only one goal all day, which was a penalty flick in the last minute of the final. What an outstanding achievement!

The class finished off the week with a superb assembly to the Main School on Thursday. They were given the task of creating their own slide, incorporating what they learned and what they enjoyed the most. It was brilliant to hear all of their stories from the day and it was clear that they thoroughly enjoyed it and learned a great deal from all of the exhibitions and activities.
