Poppy appeal
06 Nov 2026
After a restful break over half term, Form 7 has settled back into the routine of the school timetable very well this week, in addition to a few extra jobs and quirks.

In mathematics lessons, the children have enjoyed recapping some multiplication methods as well as learning a new one used by Russian peasants hundreds of years ago, using stones in their fields as counting tools. The children have also been developing their understanding of lines and angles, discovering new vocabulary such as transversal, adjacent and supplementary in the process.

Outside of the classroom, the children have been volunteering to sell poppies as part of the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal. On a rota, the children have been giving up break times to collect donations for their items, which will still be available next week.

On the sporting pitches, our teams have excelled again, with a successful visit to Hilden Grange for the boys and a very special day of hockey for some of our girls who travelled to Lea Valley, the host site for the 2012 Olympics, to take part in the U11 ISA National Championships. After a successful run, the team ended up as runners up in the Plate competition – a remarkable achievement.
A further well done must be given to the children in Johnson House, who were able to choose their treat following victory in the High Point total for the first half term. They selected to have an own clothes day on Friday, which the children in the House were very pleased with.
