Spreading kindness
07 Feb 2025This week our School is taking part in the mental health week, as driven by the charity place2be.
Mental Health is very important in our everyday life. It provides us with positive health mentally and physically, as well as social wellbeing (so the benefits of being social) including enhancing resilience and protecting against disease. This year the charity has collaborated with the Disney film, Inside Out 2, showing and understanding human emotions. As a school, we have placed a large empty jar in each classroom. In our PSHE lesson with Mrs Carn, we each wrote a nice comment about somebody else and placed it in the pot. When they were read out, lots of the children found it very uplifting. We also discussed things that we wanted to get better at and practised making SMART targets to put a plan in place to achieve them.
In other lessons, we have enjoyed video editing in computing lessons and finding out more about our trip to the Royal Courts of Justice in humanities. In computing, Form 7 have been learning how to conduct an interview, using chromebooks to video the host and subject. They have taken inspiration from Michael Parkinson and considered not only the type of questions being asked, but also the camera angles when they are recording their discussions. Zooming in and panning out whilst using two or three chromebooks will offer the children a range of perspective. Once they have a bank of small videos, these can be edited and seamlessly combined into one file including a credit roll at the end. In humanities, the children found out which role they will play when they visit the courts on Monday. This always proves to be an exciting trip, as the children conduct a court style case in a real-life courtroom.
Finally, a massive amount of congratulations needs to be offered to our netball team this week, which features a number of Form 7 pupils. After a sensational run to the final saw our U11 girls crowned the ISA regional netball champions for London South on Friday afternoon last week, they backed it up by winning a very close final in the St Michael’s U11 tournament on Wednesday. These are both tremendous achievements!
