On the topic of dinosaurs

What a roarsome week we have had in Transition learning all about dinosaurs!

The children began the week playing a fantastic number game on our C-Touch board with Mrs Nelson where the children needed to put the dinosaur spikes into the correct order to make the volcano erupt! We also had fun exploring how different dinosaurs are adapted. We learned that some dinosaurs have flat teeth to grind down plants. These animals are called herbivores. Whereas some dinosaurs have sharp, pointy teeth to cut through meat. These are the carnivores. The children drew fantastic pictures of their favourite dinosaurs and copied the letters to write the names, some of which are very long! Some children also had a go at thinking about the sounds in words such as head, tail, leg and claw and carefully formed their letters to label their drawings with these words.

We have enjoyed lots of dinosaur-themed and Halloween-themed play this week, including; carving a pumpkin, stomping dinosaurs around in dinosaur land, using screws and screwdrivers to build dinosaurs and creating magical potions! The potions ranged from blasting you off to space, turning you into a sheep and making your hair disappear. I’ll definitely be staying clear of any potions this Halloween!

Our letter sound this week was r. This was very exciting since we have two children in the class whose name begins with r! The children also thought of a robot, rectangle, rainbow and ring. Well done, Transition!

We have been working very hard on practising our coffee morning activity for Friday and the children are very excited to show you all of their learning. We hope that you enjoyed hearing and seeing all of our knowledge about hibernation.

I hope that you have a very restful half-term holiday and we look forward to welcoming your children back to school in a few weeks' time! The next half term is full of Christmas delights as we enter into the most wonderful time of the year!
