Potential: maximised!
There is little I enjoy more than hearing from former Russell House pupils with news of their success.
This term we welcomed back Mr Sam McEwan, who left in 2008, to secondary school and then to York University to read History and Philosophy. With a passion for politics, he ventured into the world of Westminster and now works as personal assistant and researcher to Laura Trott MP, Chief Secretary to the Treasury (as at the time of writing this article).
During our Assembly, I asked Sam what subjects at Russell House had he relied upon the most in his important work. He was quick to reply that his passion for history and his study of science had given him the tools for critical thinking and handling big numbers.
As I so often say, all learning is good learning, especially nowadays when the opportunities available in the future may not even have been invented yet! Keeping options open, generalising over specialising, getting involved and building self-reliance are all key for the journey of becoming a happy, successful adult. If you don’t believe me, just ask Sam!
